Lostwithiel Rug Hookers

Methodist Meeting Room every Tuesday 10.00am to 12.30pm.

We are a cheerful, friendly and supportive group; we chat and make wall-hangings, rugs, cushions etc. from discarded fabric such as old wool jumpers, skirts, fleece. We use traditional tools onto hessian backing. These tools are either for prodding or hooking (not to be confused with latch-hooking). We have tools and equipment that you can try out before buying. We also have a lot of books to browse through to get ideas. You will soon be able to make an item using family cast-offs. If you have any old felted wool jumpers, tweed skirts or fleece please bring them in.

The cost is £1.00 per session plus donations for refreshments. As a non-profit group we donate surplus funds to various charities. We also arrange some social events and outings and participate each Spring in the annual craft-fair in Marazion. Do pop in and see us.

We are currently working on a community rug depicting Lostwithiel - read more.

Self help sewing group

Also at the Methodist Meeting Room, a relaxed friendly atmosphere to pass on skills, encourage, help and also gradually collect equipment and materials for all members to use. Beginners are welcome.

At the first gathering a lot of amazing work took place ranging from two young people learning to use their grans' sewing machine to someone making curtains from a variety of old ones.

Sessions take place every Thursday (except the last of the month) from 10-12.30 in the Methodist Meeting Room. Cost is £1 plus donations for tea, coffee and biscuits.

If anyone has any unwanted sewing bits and pieces, fabrics, patterns, old scissors, cottons, wadding, any other sewing equipment or even an old sewing machine then Dianne on 01208 872303 would love to hear from you and can give you more information about the group.

Gardeners Market and Plant Swap

Our annual Gardeners Market in Spring and weekly Plant, Seed & Produce swaps in the Summer are popular and well supported. The Plant & Seed swap is held every Saturday during the summer between 10am and midday at St Bartholomew's churchyard, as long as the weather isn't atrocious. Read more about Plant & Seed Swap...

There are national websites to encourage produce swapping:
